"Rachel Portman represents some of the most beautiful written in the last 30 years. Her new collection 'Beyond the screen', brings together an enticing slice of her catalogue performed by the composer herself on piano. She is joined by cellist Raphaela Gromes for a handful of pieces, such as the wonderfully jaunty 'Vianne Sets Up Shop' from Chocolat and the tramsportive 'Letter Box' from Snow Flower and the Secret Fan. It's over 20 years since Portman's last album collection (2001's 'Soundtracks'), so this is a most welcome selection"
